“Curation is refinement. Refinement is a skill… we must cull from our wardrobe removing from it all that looks average. We must become our own curators.”*
What is a curated closet? Here are few images and tips to inspire you as you embark on crafting your personal style this winter:
- A curated closet is one that is thoughtfully crafted; clothing, shoes, and accessories are purchased for the purpose of improving an existing wardrobe.
- Make sure new pieces easily assimilate into your collection and make it better.
- Use new items create new outfits to expand the use of clothing you already own.
- Shopping with this kind of intention simplifies getting dressed everyday because your closet is filled with things that go together.
SPRING - Get clothes straight off the runway, or get inspired with the Collections feature
DOTE SHOPPING - Shopping should be fun, say hello to the newest Tinder-for-fashion app built using similar swipe right to like, left to dislike functionality. The built-in algorithm gets personal and will start to get to know what you like and don't like right away.
Getting dressed and feeling your best each day should not be a chore. It’s not about following trends or wearing something right off the catwalk. Find your genuine style in clothing that highlights the best parts of your body and makes you feel authentic. Understanding what styles, shapes, and colors look best on your body, intentionally keeping only those items in your closet, and purging the items that don’t work can simplify the process of choosing what to wear to help you look and feel your best.*
To begin my personal purge, I embark on a full closet clean-out and curation project this week. Then I plan to fill with only things I love, mostly favorites from local stores here in the bay like Betabrand, where I'm headed to today.
Good luck with your own curation, and have fun with it! In the spirit of giving this month, donate your clothes to Goodwill, or sell for less than you purchased it on Poshmark. Let me know how it goes! Would love to hear about how you curated your closet.
XO Julia
