Black is the New Black - in Theory

May 22, 2015

When ever in doubt as to what I will slip on for work in the morning, I just remember one simple rule: black goes with black.

This outfit by Theory is a play on boring black by mixing up textures, shapes, and revealing a little bit of skin in just the right places.

Rule of thumb. Always be prepared with extra layers.

The photographer by the way (aka Ginger & the Fizz) called this look '90's. I call it 'flirty'. Either works ;)

Have a great weekend everyone.

Casual Weekend Layers

May 17, 2015

What a fun weekend! Bay to Breakers flooded the streets, and aside from observing the entertaining madness, I felt inspired to train extra hard for my half marathon race that is quickly approaching. Here is a peek at what I wore during lunches out with friends and time spent out and about.

If you're looking for some great summer staples as the weather warms up, here are some links to help inspire a layered weekend casual. These pieces are great for anything from a daytime ballgame or a long distance road-trip:

Sweater: J.Crew
Glasses: Similar
Blouse: Equipment
Jacket: Similar
Shoes: Madewell
Bag: Similar

Have a great week everyone!

Slow Fashion.

May 6, 2015

If you've ever been to San Francisco, you probably are well aware that there is really no such thing as a true summer here. That is why spring, oh unpredictable spring falls into this no-mans-land of wanting to be warm, but resulting in a mixture of heat waves, fog, and wind.

That is why this structured shirtdress and boots are the perfect combination for heading to Off the Grid, the bay area's feeding frenzy via food trucks on the grass at the Presidio.

This dress by Turk & Taylor is made with thick cotton and quality stitching, and most importantly falls into the family of what I'd call Slow Fashion. Slow fashion follows the trend of wearing quality, timeless styles that can be worn year-round.

Slow fashion differs from fast fashion's philosophy of "buy a trend, turn-around and toss it away" as soon as a season changes and new trends flood the runways. When choosing any new outfit - it's important to consider what you'd wear it with, how long it might last, and if it is just a fast trend or actually falls into your own personal style.

Strong, durable boots to combat both the wet grass of the park, but are also sustainable and can easily adapt to any outfit, come winter, spring, or fall.

Matching belt and handbag worn with this outfit here last fall. You can see by comparing these two outfits, how I've maintained my personal sense of style, but still hold on to long-lasting pieces that adapt with the weather.

...we must re-design the current unsustainable practices in society, including the fashion industry. This change, if achieved, is likely to result in a gradual return to equilibrium, where societal behaviour is not in conflict with natural resources, and the fashion industry can carry on without compromising the health of the people and our planet. -MAUREEN DICKSON

Let's all work towards a sustainable future together. One bag, one shirtdress, one fashion choice at a time.
